Position Summary:
The Emergency Room Nurse Manager is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care through strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Emergency Department. This role is accountable for managing the day-to-day clinical and administrative functions of the unit, ensuring effective staffing, regulatory compliance, and achievement of performance and quality outcomes aligned with the facility’s mission and goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical and operational leadership to support safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered care practices.

  • Implement and sustain evidence-based clinical protocols and standards to improve patient safety and quality outcomes.

  • Ensure care delivery is age-appropriate and aligned with best practices in patient assessment, treatment, and development.

  • Manage staffing needs, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.

  • Provide direct oversight of patient care activities, serving as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff.

  • Monitor unit workflow and productivity, ensuring appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios and adequate shift coverage.

  • Lead unit operations, including safety initiatives, compliance, departmental performance, and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Address and resolve patient, visitor, and physician concerns professionally and promptly.

  • Foster a positive work environment through coaching, performance management, and employee engagement.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and overall care coordination.


Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Tennessee or a compact state (required)

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or BCLS Instructor certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an Emergency Department (required)

  • 1–3 years of nursing leadership or management experience (required)


Additional Details:

  • This position oversees approximately 45 direct reports.

  • The Emergency Department includes a total of 64 full-time equivalents (FTEs), with additional support from a robust PRN staff.
